Li Hao

Prof. Dr. Li Hao is an SEI Affiliated Researcher at SEI Asia. He joined the Asia Centre in June 2022.

Dr. Li Hao has a strong background in trans-boundary water resources management. He is a professor at Hubei Economics University, leading a research project on transboundary cooperation on operational mechanism of reservoirs along the mainstream Lancang-Mekong River, funded by the China National Social Science Fund.

Dr. Li Hao holds a PhD from the Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing, China in 2008, and participated in two phases of a post-doctoral research programme on adaptation to Climate Change in Mekong River Basin at UNESCO-IHE between 2011 to 2014.

He previously worked as director of the transboundary river research department at Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute (CRSRI) between 2011 to 2017, and as Director of Project Cooperation Department at Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center (LMC Water Centre) between 2018 to 2019. During this period, he led the development of comprehensive information service platform for Lancang-Mekong water resources cooperation, and demonstration of mountain flood prevention and control technology in Lancang-Mekong countries, funded by the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund (LMCSF). He also has led the project on Lancang-Mekong water resources cooperation, and the project on emergency cooperation on flood control and drought relief among China and ASEAN countries, funded by the China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation Fund.

He has been cooperating with SEI Asia for several years since 2018 until present on project proposal development and project implementation related to transboundary water cooperation under the LMC mechanism.

During 2022- 2024, he is involved in two projects being funded by the LMCSF on “Building Water Sector Youth Leadership Network in the Lancang-Mekong Region” and on “Promoting Climate-Smart Water Technologies and Innovations for Sustainable Water Resources and Rice Production under Climate Change in the Lancang-Mekong Region”. He will contribute his technical expertise and support engagement with experts from China and other countries.
