Héctor Angarita

Héctor Angarita is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Biology Department at Stanford University in California, United States.

His research focuses on cross-scale methods to integrate ecosystem functions and societal benefits in water systems planning and management. Dr. Angarita has contributed to the development of a set of enhancements to SEI’s Water Evaluation and Planning Model (WEAP) that allows for the simulation of water balance dynamics of floodplains and wetlands. By providing an improved understanding of the linkages between climate variability, system operation, and floodplain dynamics, these new routines allow WEAP to link water management infrastructure development and operations planning to basin-level freshwater ecosystems conservation or restoration projects.

Dr. Angarita has also contributed to the development of interactive interfaces designed to facilitate and enhance stakeholder interactions with water management models, and new functionalities to allow river basin topological analysis using SEI’s WEAP simulation software.

Hector Angarita received his Ph.D. in Environmental and Rural Studies from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogota, Colombia in 2018.
