Though Zimbabwe contributes less than 0.1% of global greenhouse gas emissions, the country has committed to reduce emissions by 40% by 2030. By making these efforts to mitigate climate change, Zimbabwe will also be able to achieve a number of societal benefits, as well as meetings its international obligations. Research points to three key benefits for Zimbabwe:

  1. Public health: reducing greenhouse gases would reduce air pollutant emissions, thereby lowering air pollution exposure indoors and outdoors.
  2. Improved biodiversity: conservation agriculture and better managing natural forest could improve soil quality and reduce wildlife losses.
  3. Access to reliable energy: improving access to renewable energy and reducing losses from electricity transmission and distribution could reduce blackouts and reliance on fossil fuels.
