Satish Prasad

Research Fellow

Satish Prasad is a Research Fellow at SEI Asia. Satish works as a Remote Sensing and GIS Specialist with the Water Cluster. He joined SEI in January 2023.

Before joining SEI Asia, Satish worked at Wetlands International South Asia (WISA), New Delhi, India. His expertise lies primarily in evaluating, monitoring, and analyzing the impact of water ecosystems’ changing dynamics using remote sensing. He has over seven years of experience with wetland and riverine ecosystem management, water-related disaster risk reduction, landscape planning, climate change adaptation water ecosystem research, conservation, and management, in addition to remote sensing.

He undertook the establishment of the Plastics and Wetlands programme and developed a rapid assessment protocol for plastics in inland wetlands, as well as plastic abundance mapping for wetlands using spatial and non-spatial data. He was also responsible for upscaling community resilience through ecosystem-based Disaster Risk Reduction via remote sensing for which he estimated the water-related flood risk in the Ganjam District of Odisha, India, and co-authored a guidebook titled Nature-based Solutions for Reducing Water-related Risks: A Guide for District Disaster Management Planning. Using Google Earth Engine, he evaluated the dynamics of 283 wetland ecosystems in the Ganga floodplain in support of the management plan.

Satish holds a PhD in Environment Science, where he studied the dynamics of riverine landscapes using remote sensing.
