Seasoned development expert and former IFAD President, Lennart Båge, brings extensive experience and leadership to SEI.

SEI is delighted to announce the appointment of Lennart Båge as its new Chairperson of the Board. Båge, who has been serving as Acting Chairperson since last year, will assume his new role immediately.
Lennart Båge brings a wealth of experience to his new position at SEI, having held various high-level positions in the Swedish government and international organizations. Most notably, Båge served as President of the UN’s International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) from 2001 to 2009, where he oversaw initiatives aimed at reducing rural poverty and boosting agricultural development in low-income countries.

Throughout his career, Båge has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainable development, which is at the core of SEI’s mission. As Chairperson, he will work closely with the board and management teams to shape the institute’s strategic direction and ensure its continued impact.
Båge’s dedication to collaboration and partnership also aligns with SEI’s ethos, as the institute seeks to bridge the gap between science and policy. His background in both government and international organizations will undoubtedly strengthen SEI’s relationships with key stakeholders.
Båge succeeds former Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden and Minister for International Development Cooperation, Isabella Lövin. Under Lövin’s tenure, SEI advanced its reputation as a leading international research institute, and the organization is grateful for her guidance and contributions.
SEI extends a warm welcome to Lennart Båge as he begins his tenure as Chairperson, and we eagerly anticipate the growth and innovation he will bring to our organization.
