The Roundtable’s topic is Witnessing a new era for the bioeconomy in Africa.

Africa is the next big opportunity for the Bioeconomy with its huge reservoirs in biomass, unused arable land and untapped treasures of biodiversity. The continent also needs to respect its continental boundaries, its large dominating rural areas, but also emerging preurban and urban agglomerations, and its small retail economic structures which cannot be compared with other continents.

South Africa for more than a decade is leading the development of a Bioeconomy in Africa, recently followed by the East African Community, Namibia etc. This is the first time that a dedicated African Round Table takes place in which the many diverse aspects of African bioeconomies from North to South and East to West are discussed.
