Technical workshop on financial risk mitigation for renewable energy investments in West and Central Africa

SEI’s Finance for Sustainable Development programme, together with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Ministry of Energy of Ghana, will hold a two-day workshop for renewable energy finance experts in West and Central Africa.

SEI researchers Daniel Duma and Miquel Muñoz Cabré will travel to Ghana to learn more about whether risk mitigation policies used to attract private investment in renewable energy in West and Central Africa are successful in ensuring project viability.

The workshop will provide an opportunity to learn about risk mitigation instruments for renewable energy investments from various stakeholders and reflect on the socioeconomic challenges and benefits of increased renewable energy investments in West and Central Africa.

The workshop objectives are:

  1. Achieve a better understanding of existing risk mitigation instruments, including their role in ensuring project viability and resilience during challenging economic times.
  2. Identify what can be done differently and by whom to make risk mitigation more effective, sustainable and scalable.
  3. Explore the future of risk mitigation: new models, approaches and collaborations.
  4. Discuss the role of public funding and the importance of international collaboration
  5. Reflection on progress, challenges and the future socio-economic evolution foreseen by the governments in the regions.

The workshop is held by invitation only and under Chatham House Rules.
