Aaron Maltais

Aaron Maltais is a Senior Research Fellow at SEI and the Programme Director of the Stockholm Sustainable Finance Centre (SSFC), a centre housed at SEI. Aaron has twenty years of experience working on climate and sustainability transitions, leading research and research teams, and engaging with private and public actors. He returned to SEI in 2017 after having previously worked at SEI from 2000-2002 and in 2008.

As Director of the SSFC, Aaron leads a team of researchers & analysts in collaborating with actors in industry, government, and research to help accelerate the shift in capital investments required to deliver on the SDGs and the Paris climate targets. As a Senior Researcher at SEI, Aaron is engaged in research on transitions to green industrial production, just transitions, implementation of the SDGs, and international climate politics and loss and damage.

Prior to his current roles at SEI, Aaron worked in academia. His academic research has focused on the international cooperation and political economy challenges climate change has generated and their implications for climate justice and effective climate governance. He has also done work on global justice, human rights, legal theory, and democratic theory.

Aaron holds a BA honours and MA in Political Science from the University of Alberta, Canada. He has a PhD in Political Science from Uppsala University, Sweden. He also has the title of Docent from Uppsala University (Associate Professor level).
